Practice Transition
Help you when you are joining or leaving a group, moving or adding locations.
At RWS, we understand that transitioning to new rooms or stepping away from a group practice is both an exciting and a demanding time in your professional journey. Our role is to make that transition as smooth and stressfree as possible so you can stay focused on what matters most – your patients.
In some instances when transitioning your practice, you may also need assistance in other areas such as:
- Updating or recreating logo and stationery
- Updating or recreating website
- Reviewing staffing obligations
- Recruiting new staff
- Changing medical software, including set-up or training
- Managing your online presence during the transition
- Organising MOU contracts for groups or tenants
- Performing a health check of your previous software to ensure all funds have been received before your transition
Whether your move is entirely amicable or a little more complex, we specialise in supporting doctors in private practice through every step. This includes developing a plan to ensure appropriate patients and contacts are appropriately informed. We can handle these communications so that you continue to meet your AHPRA and college obligations without the worry of missing any critical steps.
We aim to make the practice transition as seamless as possible for you by providing all these transitional services within the same team.
Our team works closely with you to ensure the process is personalised, efficient, and wellcoordinated. By taking these responsibilities off your plate, we help you protect your professional relationships, maintain continuity of care, and avoid unnecessary disruptions to your practice time.
If you’re planning a transition or even just considering one, RWS is here to guide you through it.
Practice Transition Case Studies
Here are some recent examples of practices we have assisted with a significant transition.
For confidentiality, we have not listed any names or states.
Case Study One
Two Colorectal Surgeons were practising in a large group of surgeons. The clinic was poorly managed, and staff were unhappy and unable to follow the processes the surgeons required. The surgeons decided to leave the group and establish their own entity so they could regain control of their practices. They sought advice on how to inform their principal, as they were confident the news would not be well received.
RWS assisted by:
- Providing advice on retrieving the data they were entitled to
- Preparing an MOU agreement for the two surgeons
- Transitioning from serverbased to cloudbased software
- Recruiting new staff
- Providing prompt transitional marketing to ensure referrers were retained
Case Study Two
Three OBGYNs approached us for assistance transitioning from an established entity into their own new entity. Multiple staff members chose to join them, which required detailed HR advice and comprehensive contract preparation.
RWS assisted by:
- Transitioning from serverbased to cloudbased software
- Providing HR advice and preparing contracts to ensure compliance
- Conducting a Practice Health Check to ensure all monies owed to the OBGYNs were received prior to separating the systems
Case Study Three
An ENT surgeon decided to establish their own solo practice rather than continue within a group. The surgeon anticipated the group might not allow them to keep consulting after notifying them of the decision to leave.
RWS assisted by:
- Interior Design & Architecture for the new property
- Branding and website design for the new entity
- Practice SetUp
- Virtual Reception services during the interim while staff were being trained
- Recruitment support and HR documentation for new staff
- Training new staff and assisting in the creation of a Practice Handbook
- Transitional marketing to all current referrers to ensure they were retained
Case Study Four
A Maxillofacial Surgeon chose to leave their group practice after purchasing a new property, with the fitout almost complete. They were concerned they would be asked to leave the group immediately once they advised their colleagues of the move.
RWS assisted by:
- Providing advice on retrieving the data they were entitled to
- Preparing HR contracts for new staff
- Recruiting new staff
- Providing advice on a suitable business name for the new entity
- Practice SetUp
- Branding, logo, and website design
- Transitional marketing to all current referrers to ensure they were retained
Case Study Five
A Paediatrician elected to establish a solo practice after leaving a group due to terms that no longer suited them. As the paediatrician did not consult often enough to require a staff member, they needed Virtual Administration support. Their spouse, who had financial experience but no medical industry background, wished to manage billing and required training to run the practice effectively.
RWS assisted by:
- Practice SetUp
- Providing advice regarding their noncompete and compliant marketing options
- Training the specialist’s spouse on Health Fund processes and Billing so they could manage the backend
- Virtual Reception to ensure a seamless transition for patients
- Branding, logo, and website design
- Transitional marketing to all current referrers and patients to ensure they were retained
